automake, autoconf, aclocal, pkg-conf, zlib , IRC these dependencies
mentioned in the INSTALL file. Other than automake 1.9 I'm not very
sure about version number.

Apart from the other dependencies automake 1.9 is mandatory. You may
need to upgrade it.
