Also, I think the SocketAppenders are currently broken. There is a long-running issue with the interoperability with log4j's implementations that would be lovely to fix, but might be beyond the scope of what can be accomplished for 0.9.8. http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LOGCXX-7

Plus other build and packaging issues.
