I've used this and it works fine, with some caveats. Use only XML formats (either XMLSocketAppender/Receiver or XMLFileAppender format). Also, and this seems to be a Chainsaw bug - it doesn't start receivers properly from a configuration file. You need to configure them (by hand) each time you start Chainsaw.
