  Or best, IMHO, define your own macro like this :

    #if defined( NDEBUG )
    #  define MY_DISABLED_IN_REALASE_LOGGING_DEBUG( logger , msg )
    #else
    #  define MY_DISABLED_IN_REALASE_LOGGING_DEBUG( logger , msg ) \
           LOG4CXX_DEBUG( logger , msg )
    #endif
