I would be more agreeable to default tab fields than having CC expanded automatically. I RARELY use CC, and often use BCC, so that would be my choice, but as a friend to many software programmers I can see a good reason not to. "You give the user too many options to turn on or off, and they then complain that it's too difficult to use." I know GMail has long striven to keep this simple. Do you have CC expanded? When I begin to compose a brand new message, CC is collapsed and reads as "Add CC", so it's not the next item, it's a link, instead of a form field. When I've clicked "add cc" THEN the next item is the CC field.
