[android-beginners] How to unlock screen through code?

I want to unlock the emulator screen before running the tests,
otherwise they are stuck till i manually clcik on menu to unlock the
screen.
tried this but it doesn't do anything.
sendKeys(KeyEvent.KEYCODE_HOME);
