Description: Alist is a program that collects hardware and software information about systems and stores it in a database for users to browse and search via a Web interface. The program consists of three parts: a client portion that collects the information, a daemon that receives data sent from clients, and a CGI that displays and lets you search for information. Clients for Solaris, Linux, FreeBsd, OpenBSD, HP-UX, Irix, Windows, and Mac OS X are currently available.

Description: g4u ("ghost for unix") is a NetBSD-based bootfloppy/CD-ROM that allows easy cloning of PC harddisks to deploy a common setup on a number of PCs using FTP. The floppy/CD offers two functions. First is to upload the compressed image of a local harddisk to a FTP server. Other is to restore that image via FTP, uncompress it and write it back to disk; network configuration is fetched viaDHCP. Description: Osiris is a Host Integrity Monitoring System that periodically monitors one or more hosts for change. It maintains detailed logs of changes to the file system, user and group lists, resident kernel modules, and more. Osiris can be configured to email these logs to the administrator. Hosts are periodically scanned and, if desired, the records can be maintained for forensic purposes. Osiris keeps an administrator apprised of possible attacks and/or nasty little trojans. The purpose here is to isolate changes that indicate a break-in or a compromised system. Osiris makes use of OpenSSL for encryption and authentication in all components.

  zCI Computer Inventory System  Popular
Description: zCI is an free and open source web-based computer inventory system. It is built under open standards and open source base software for portability among platforms. It consists of client-side and server-side programs. The client-side programs are written in JavaScript language and HTML to take computer information automatically from DMTF's CIM (Common Information Model) schema without any manual input. The server-side program processes inventory data to display it and to manage the data in database. By using PHP in the server-side programs, zCI server can run on almost all operating system platforms and web server software. You also have flexibility in choosing database platform because zCI use PHP DBX extension. The official release is based on MySQL. Because every database system have different built-in functions for date/time processing, little modification will be necessary if you are not using MySQL.
