Gartner: Use open source to cut 35% from e-commerce costs

From the People Still Don't Know This? dept.:
E-commerce teams within IT departments must do more with less, so they need to maximize their resources through shrewd and clever management, according to Gartner.

Although IT budgets are shrinking anywhere between 5 to 25 percent, IT e-commerce organisations are expected to sharpen the online shopping experiences of their companies' customers.

..."That's the real big challenge here for e-commerce organisations: The bar keeps rising despite the economy," he said. "Whether in business-to-consumer or business-to-business e-commerce, as customers are exposed to new capabilities, they expect those at all other websites."

open source is good for small company to develop cheap and fast system. But, i am wonder how the big organization is going to benefit from it as it is too complicate to change whole environment.

Well, you gotta cut costs somewhere, right? Hopefully they will still keep making advances, despite cutting budget.

Even in a good economy, people still look for ways to make their budget stretch further, so I have no problem with Gartner going open source

I always prefered opened source softwares no matter what they are, I dislike the mega-corporations softwares that keep bugging and that we cannot even modify.
